***************************************************************
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (October 13) reported that the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) 2016/17 would be launched next Thursday (October 20), providing seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) at an increased subsidy for more population groups in preparation for the winter influenza season.

The eligible groups are Hong Kong residents who are:

Eligible groups of VSS 2016/17
($190/dose)
New beneficiaries in 2016/17
1. All pregnant women Expanded to cover all pregnant women
2. All children aged 6 months to under 12 years Extended to cover children aged 6 to under 12 years
3. Community-living persons with intellectual disabilities and persons receiving Disability Allowance Expanded to cover persons receiving Disability Allowance, regardless of disability, i.e. disabled physical, mental, intellectual or other conditions
4. All elders aged 65 or above -

Eligible groups can get vaccinated from enrolled private doctors in their clinics at $190 per dose of SIV. Enrolled doctors should display the designated logo near the entrance of their clinics and a pricing poster showing their charges. The list of enrolled doctors and their service fees after deducting the government subsidy has been uploaded to the eHealth System (Subsidies) (https://apps.hcv.gov.hk/SDIR/EN).

Apart from their clinics, enrolled doctors can also organise outreach vaccination activities to primary schools to provide pupils with better protection for the influenza season. Active participation and collaboration between the medical sector and schools are key to raising the vaccination coverage.

To date, 107 doctors have indicated their interest in providing outreach activities, while 36 primary schools have planned to arrange outreach activities with enrolled doctors. The list of doctors is available online (www.chp.gov.hk/en/view_content/46428.html) for schools' easy reference.

"We have been working closely with the medical profession, the education sector including primary schools and parent groups, the social welfare sector including institutions and organisations serving the elderly and disabled, and community partners. Briefings to relevant stakeholders were held prior to the launch," a spokesman for the CHP said.

The Government Vaccination Programme (free vaccination) will be rolled out in phases early next month and details will be announced in due course.

"We again strongly appeal to the public for early vaccination amid increased influenza activity," the spokesman added.

The public, especially eligible groups, may call the CHP's hotline (2125 2125) for enquiries during office hours or visit the VSS page (www.chp.gov.hk/en/view_content/46107.html) for more information.
