     Following is a transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, at a media session in Beijing today (December 22):

Reporter:  Do you think it signifies that Hong Kong will probably take on a more and more important role in helping to develop the renminbi market?

Chief Executive: First of all, Hong Kong will continue to grow in maturity and in size and in depth as a global financial centre. This is reflected in the whole spectrum of financial work and financial performance Hong Kong has demonstrated over the years, and this is going to take place. As far as the trading of renminbi is concerned, the scope and various products of renminbi are being handled by Hong Kong and they will continue to grow as well.  And I am sure in this regard Hong Kong will continue to have a very important and growingly important role in the convertibility of renminbi, particularly in the marketing of renminbi in the international market.
