The Education Bureau today (June 22) held a seminar at Queen Elizabeth Stadium for parents of the first cohort of New Senior Secondary (NSS) students to enhance communication in the run-up to the implementation of the new academic structure in September.
The seminar also saw the launch of the revamped new academic structure website which contains enriched information and is more user-oriented.
Prizes were also presented to winners of the NSS Academic Structure Wallpaper Design Competition. The respective champions of the Student Section and Open Section of the competition were Chan Man-kit of Carmel Pak U Secondary School and Mr Chow Siu-fung.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Secretary for Education, Dr Chan Ka-ki said the NSS academic structure catered for different needs of students, offered them multiple pathways and fostered whole-person development and life-long learning.
䩕Under the new academic structure, students will have more choices in respect of further studies or employment. We hope the new academic structure will help the younger generations widen their horizons and nurture their life-long learning ability so they can fully realise their potential and have fruitful lives.
䩕Parents will better understand the merits of the new academic structure once their children have started their NSS education. Today, your learning more about the new Academic structure is already the first step to its successful implementation,蒅 Dr Chan said.
To enhance communication with parents and other stakeholders, the Education Bureau has revamped the New Academic Structure "334" Web Bulletin to provide updated and comprehensive information on the new academic structure.
Five stakeholders﷿ corners - 䩕Parents蒅, 䩕Students蒅, 䩕Principals蒅, 䩕Teachers蒅 and 䩕Employers蒅 and 䩕Universities and Post-secondary Institutions蒅 ﷿ have been added to the website which provides a convenient platform for individual stakeholder groups to obtain information of interest and specific concern.
Information on the revamped website is divided into seven categories - "Curriculum蒅, 䩕Assessment蒅, 䩕Learning and Teaching蒅, 䩕School Curriculum Planning蒅, 䩕Publications and Multimedia Information蒅, 䩕Multiple Pathways蒅 and 䩕Related Activities蒅. New features include a one-stop access to teaching resources of different NSS subjects under the 䩕Learning and Teaching蒅 category. The website address is (www.edb.gov.hk/334).
Parents welcomed the seminar during which guest speakers talked about new academic structure topics including curriculum, assessment, selection of subjects, entrance requirements to university and post-secondary institutions as well as employers﷿ expectations and requirements.
The speakers were the Principal Assistant Secretary (Curriculum Development)of the Education Bureau, Dr Cheung Kwok-wah; Ying Wa Girls﷿ School Principal, Mrs Ruth Lee; Dean of Undergraduate Education of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Prof Tam Kar-yan; Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Victor Lee; and Director of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, Mr Anthony Au. The Secretary General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Dr Francis Cheung, was also present at the seminar.
