Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

As at yesterday (December 14), a total of 3 746 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 are hospitalised for treatment. Among the hospitalised confirmed patients, 479 were new patients, 2 671 required isolation, 443 required oxygen therapy and 47 required ventilator support. There were 27 newly reported critical patients and 21 newly reported serious patients. There were a total of 110 patients in critical condition and 98 in serious condition, of which 31 critical patients are receiving intensive care. Moreover, there were 464 patients who have recovered, including 390 patients who have been discharged. In addition, 19 patients who passed away in public hospitals were reported.
The Hospital Authority (HA) has reviewed the preliminary statistics of the past week (December 7 to December 13). Among the COVID-19 patients admitted through accident and emergency departments, around 66 per cent were admitted due to COVID-19 infection, while around 34 per cent were admitted due to other medical reasons. For the deceased COVID-19 patients, around 53 per cent potentially died of COVID-19, while around 47 per cent died from other illnesses. The HA will keep analysing the statistics concerned so as to provide appropriate services in accordance with the situation and patient needs.
The overall occupancy of medical beds in acute hospitals is around 105 per cent.
The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
