The spokesman for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) made the following announcement today (December 18) regarding an inpatient tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19:
A 71-year-old male patient attended CMC Accident and Emergency Department last night (December 17) due to hyperglycaemia, dizziness and fall injury. Patient's chest X-ray finding was normal; without fever or respiratory symptoms on admission. He was admitted to the acute ward of Medicine and Geriatrics Department. The hospital arranged admission screening of COVID-19 test for him and the test result was positive. The patient was transferred to isolation ward immediately and he is currently in stable condition.
The hospital infection control team conducted contact tracing. A total of eight patients who had stayed in the same cubicle of the patient concerned and one nurse who did not wear appropriate personal protective equipment while the patient underwent deep throat saliva test are classified as close contacts and will be quarantined for 14 days. The contact tracing is still in progress.
The hospital has arranged thorough cleansing and disinfection of the concerned areas and ward. The hospital would continue to closely monitor the health of the staff and patients and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection about the latest situation.
