SFST visits residents in Southern District (with photos)
********************************************************
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr James Lau, visited elderly households and needy families in Southern District today (July 19). He also visited some traditional shops to learn more about the daily life and needs of local residents.

As part of the "Celebrations for All" project, Mr Lau made home visits in Shek Pai Wan Estate this morning together with the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Mr Wong Kuen-fai; the Government Property Administrator, Mr Tommy Yuen; the Registrar of Companies, Ms Ada Chung; and the Official Receiver, Ms Phyllis McKenna. Altogether they visited nine families and distributed gift packs to share the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Mr Lau then went to the Southern District Council (DC) to meet with DC members to exchange views on various issues including financial technology development, funding arrangements for district projects and procurement guidelines for government’s outsourced services.

He then took a kaito trip from Aberdeen waterfront to Ap Lei Chau Main Street, where he visited a dried seafood store and a traditional bakery to better understand their businesses after the commissioning of the South Island Line.

Mr Lau said, "This is my first district visit since taking up the office of the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury. I am very happy to get in contact with local residents and also had the opportunity to meet with DC members to deepen my understanding of community needs. I very much look forward to visiting other districts in future to stay in touch with the community."

The "Celebrations for All" project is one of the major events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. The project is co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Department and implemented by non-governmental organisations in the 18 districts.
