SCS visits Environmental Protection Department (with photos)

Accompanied by the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Eddie Mak, Mr Law first met with the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Mr Donald Tong, and the directorate staff. He was briefed on the department's policies and plans on environmental protection and conservation, as well as the challenges confronting them.
Mr Law then toured the EPD's Island West Transfer Station (IWTS) in Kennedy Town, where he was briefed on Hong Kong's waste management infrastructure, including the operation of refuse transfer stations, landfills, Tý˙PARK and the chemical waste treatment facility. Situated inside a cavern at Mount Davis, the IWTS currently receives municipal solid waste collected from the western area of Hong Kong Island and part of Yau Tsim Mong District for transfer to West New Territories Landfill for disposal.
Before concluding his visit, Mr Law met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on matters that concerned them. He praised colleagues for their dedication and efforts, and encouraged them to continue optimising professional knowledge and competence to maintain a healthy and pleasant environment for Hong Kong.
