Allowance levels increased for trainees of Youth Employment and Training Programme attending pre-employment training courses and workplace attachment training

     Commencing from the new programme year, which will start on September 1, 2017, the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) will increase the level of training allowance for trainees from the existing amount of $50 per day to $70 per day. The level of workplace attachment training allowance for trainees will also be raised from the existing amount of $3,000 to $4,500 from the same date.

     Trainees who complete the YETP's pre-employment training courses commencing on or after September 1, with an attendance rate of 80 per cent or above, will be entitled to a training allowance at a rate of $70 per day. Moreover, trainees under the programme who join the one-month workplace attachment training on or after September 1, with an attendance rate of 80 per cent or above will be entitled to a workplace attachment training allowance of $4,500.

     The YETP of the Labour Department (LD) provides a comprehensive job search platform with one-stop and diversified pre-employment and on-the-job training for young school leavers aged 15 to 24 with educational attainment at sub-degree level or below. This programme enables young people to better understand themselves and their work aptitudes while enriching their job skills and experience so as to enhance employability.

     The programme does not have any minimum academic qualification requirements. Enrolment is on a year-round basis and is free of charge. The training and employment support services provided by the YETP include pre-employment training courses, one-month workplace attachment training, on-the-job training of six to 12 months with salary, off-the-job vocational training allowance and 12 months' case management services provided by registered social workers. Trainees are provided with personalised career guidance, job search assistance and employment support. All eligible young people are welcome to apply.

     In addition, the new YETP website will be launched on July 22 (Saturday). The website will be temporarily suspended for system upgrade from 9am to 6pm on that day. After the upgrading exercise, the website will facilitate public browsing of its contents by use of desktop computers, mobile phones and tablet computers. The revamped YETP website will provide an enhanced browsing experience for users.

The LD has also set up a Youth Employment Services hotline 2112 9932 to provide a one-stop enquiry service on the programme and receive training vacancies from employers.
