Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam, said that the QWSSB - Fresh Water (Plus) included testing for heavy metals in water and an expanded scope of water sampling to enhance water quality assurance for buildings. As at the end of July, about 700 certificates had been awarded under the QWSSB - Fresh Water (Plus) since its launch in December 2015, and about 1,500 certificates had been issued under the QWSSB - Flushing Water, which was introduced in 2014. The two types of the scheme have coverage of about 100,000 and 330,000 water accounts respectively.
The WSD also held the "Zero Waste in Trades" Forum cum Launching Ceremony of the Best Practice Guidelines for Water Usage for the catering and hotel industries today. Representatives from the environmental protection, waterworks, catering, hotel and construction sectors shared their professional knowledge and valuable insight on water conservation and environmental protection. Mr Lam said he hoped that the forum could pool wisdom and efforts from all levels of the industries, ranging from the management to front-line and supporting staff, for optimising water-use efficiency.
