Elderly Commission to engage public on initial recommendations of Elderly Services Programme Plan

The Working Group on Elderly Services Programme Plan (the Working Group) under the Elderly Commission (EC) will arrange a series of public engagement activities to gather views on the initial recommendations of the Elderly Services Programme Plan (ESPP).
Public engagement exercises of the first two stages were carried out from October to November 2014 and from June to August 2015 to gather the views of different stakeholders on the scope of ESPP, and the possible strategies and measures to be adopted. After considering the views gathered, the Working Group has drawn up the initial recommendations of the ESPP.
"Having gone through the first two stages, the community has a clearer understanding of the challenges ahead of us, whether it is the service demand increase or long-term financial sustainability of elderly services that a fast-ageing population would bring. We feel that there is a general support that the existing policies of 'active ageing' and 'ageing in place as core' should be upheld. With this in mind, the Working Group has developed corresponding strategies and initial recommendations," the Chairman of the EC and the Working Group, Dr Lam Ching-choi, said.
"The Working Group would like to invite stakeholders to provide their views on the initial recommendations of the ESPP through the public engagement exercise to be conducted in the coming months. We hope that a consensus on the future development of elderly services could be reached," Dr Lam added.
The engagement exercise will be carried out starting from October. A public consultation forum will be organised for each of the 18 districts. Detailed arrangements will be uploaded to the EC's website (www.elderlycommission.gov.hk) and the ESPP’s website (espp.socialwork.hku.hk).
