Electors should observe order at polling station

The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) called on electors to vote in the 2016 Legislative Council General Election on September 4. Electors should vote at the designated polling station in a peaceful and orderly manner. As in the past, the EAC will supervise the election strictly in accordance with the law to ensure that the Legislative Council election is conducted openly, honestly and fairly.
“Electors should observe the arrangements of the polling station and obey the order of the Presiding Officer, and vote orderly in accordance with the voting procedures. It is an offence for any person to disturb others, disrupt the poll or misbehave in the polling station,” an EAC spokesperson said today (September 2).
“According to the Electoral Affairs Commission (Electoral Procedure) (Legislative Council) Regulation (Chapter 541D), a person who on the polling day fails to comply with a lawful order given by the Returning Officer or the Presiding Officer or behaves in a disorderly manner at a polling station, counting station, central counting station or related areas, commits an offence and is liable to a maximum fine of $5,000 and imprisonment of up to three months.
“The Returning Officer or Presiding Officer may order the person to leave the polling station immediately in accordance with the above-mentioned regulation and seek the assistance of the Police if necessary.”
