Proposals invited for Public Art Scheme
***************************************

Artwork proposals are invited for an open art competition so as to bring artistic elements into the public environment.

Organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Public Art Scheme 2006 invites site-specific public artwork proposals for the public space at three LCSD venues - the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Ko Shan Road Park and Po Hong Park.

In the past few years, the Public Art Scheme has commissioned artwork installations for many community venues including Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong Central Library, Yuen Long Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Tuen Mun Public Library, Tseung Kwan O Public Library, Fanling Public Library and Ma On Shan Public Library.

Entrants can submit their proposals in a personal capacity or as a team. All submissions should be original creations. The works will be assessed with reference to their compatibility with the target environment, artistic merit, creativity, practicability, safety and production cost.

A maximum of one winning entry and three short-listed entries will be selected for each venue. A prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the winning entrant and each short-listed entrant will receive $2,000. Selected artwork proposals will be featured in an exhibition and the winning entrants will be subsidised so they can produce a report on the feasibility of constructing their artworks. Proposals that pass the structural evaluation may be formally commissioned for production.

A site visit is scheduled on November 25 for interested parties to gain a more concrete idea of the location and surrounding environment. Interested parties are advised to make advance reservation on or before November 23.

Competition brochures and entry forms can now be downloaded from the APO's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/apo/ and will be available for collection at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Ko Shan Theatre, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and Hong Kong City Hall from the afternoon of November 15. Entries should be delivered, together with the completed entry forms, to the APO at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, 7A Kennedy Road, Central on January 6 and 7, 2007.

For details, please see the brochure or the APO's website or call the APO's Public Art Team on 3101 2738.
