S for S begins Beijing visit (with photo)
*****************************************
The Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, arrived in Beijing and began his visit today (April 24).

In the afternoon, Mr Tang called on the Ministry of Public Security and met with the State Councillor and Minister of Public Security, Mr Wang Xiaohong. Mr Tang said that after visiting the Ministry of Public Security as a member of the Chief Executive's delegation to Beijing last month, he is very pleased to lead the heads of the disciplined services to call on the ministry today. In the meeting, he gave an account of the efforts of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in safeguarding national security, the overall crime situation in Hong Kong, as well as the co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong on enhancing talent exchanges and training. He said he hopes that the two sides will continue their full co-operation and close communication on preventing and combatting cross-boundary criminal activities together.

Mr Tang also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Public Security for providing strong support and attaching great importance to enhancing the two-way flow of talent in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Noting that the launch of the GBA exit endorsement for talent in February this year to enable six categories of Mainland talent in the GBA to travel southbound to Hong Kong has achieved significant results, he said he hopes to further promote measures to facilitate the flow of talent for Hong Kong to leverage its advantages to support the strategic development of the GBA.

The heads of the Hong Kong Police Force, the Immigration Department, the Customs and Excise Department, the Correctional Services Department, the Fire Services Department and the Government Flying Service joined the meeting. The 140-strong Hong Kong Disciplined Services Cultural Exchange Delegation, which is currently on an exchange visit on the Mainland, also attended.

Mr Tang will continue his visit in Beijing tomorrow (April 25).
