Acting SHA visits cold shelter and presents protective equipment to anti-epidemic volunteer teams (with photos)

     The Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Jack Chan, today (February 21) visited Henry G Leong Yaumatei Community Centre to inspect the operation of temporary cold shelter and to attend a presentation ceremony of personal protective equipment to the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link.

     Accompanied by the Acting Director of Home Affairs, Miss Vega Wong, Mr Chan first examined the operation of the temporary cold shelter at the Centre, including items provided by the shelter and the distribution of meal coupons. He also exchanged views with the staff members and encouraged them to deliver their best to members of the public.

     In view of the recent situation of the epidemic, rapid antigen test kits will be provided to users of temporary cold shelters for testing before they enter the shelters. Mr Chan was briefed by the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mr Edward Yu, on the arrangement including measures to maintain separation from person tested positive for COVID-19 by rapid antigen test.

     Mr Chan then officiated the protective equipment presentation ceremony, presenting hundred sets of personal protective equipment (including protective gowns, head covers, goggles, masks, protective face shields, gloves and shoe covers, etc) to the chief convenor of the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link, Dr Bunny Chan. The presentation demonstrated once again the unity and togetherness among the Home Affairs Bureau, the Home Affairs Department and the community groups in fighting the epidemic.

     Mr Chan said, "We are extremely thankful to the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link in fully supporting the anti-epidemic work by mobilising large number of volunteers to proactively participate in anti-pandemic work in the community amidst the severe situation. At the same time, we will need to ensure that our volunteers are fully protected by taking all personal protective measures during their work in order to protect themselves and their families. I believe that, with our concerted efforts, Hong Kong will weather the epidemic soon."
