Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Ricky Lau, said that the Government will continue to take forward various infrastructure projects in the future, including the initiative on the artificial islands in the Central Waters and the development of the Northern Metropolis, which would provide major opportunities to the E&M industry. At the same time, the large demand for E&M talents equipped with professional knowledge and skillsets is expected to support building safety and rehabilitation works. The young trainees will have bright future in the E&M industry.
Mr Lau encouraged the young trainees to grasp every working and learning opportunity, and to promote the application of innovative technology in the industry with their creative thinking. He also thanked the Working Group for their dedication to rallying the strength of the E&M industry to attract young people to join the creative and vibrant E&M industry, and to enhance their bright future.
The Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council, Mrs Carrie Yau, encouraged young people to continuously pursue learning and enrich themselves, with a view to giving full play to their talents at different positions in the future and contribute to the development of Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Trade Promotion Working Group, established in 2012, is formed by 19 E&M-related organisations, including government departments, public organisations, education institutes, public utilities, trade associations and unions. It aims to promote and enhance the professional image of the E&M industry and thereby attract more young people to join the industry.
