The University of Law to open first international campus in Hong Kong
*********************************************************************
The University of Law office is up and running with a core team to drive ahead the setting up of the campus, with full support from the university headquarters in the UK, according to the university's Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Professor Andrea Nollent.
Professor Nollent said that the decision to establish the campus in the city was timed to tap into the expected surge in demand for international legal services as Hong Kong is the major business platform amid the Belt and Road Initiative. This would consequently increase demand for quality legal training.
She said, "Hong Kong is a world hub for commerce, finance, trade, logistics and education and, as such, a very attractive proposition for us. Furthermore, the legal education and training landscape in Hong Kong has grown rapidly but still reflects its English common law origins. Hong Kong's legal professional arrangements are in many ways similar to those of England and Wales."
She added, "Hong Kong's legal services sector also plays a pivotal role in satisfying the needs of the international investment programme driven by the Chinese Government. The more recent Belt and Road Initiative, which envisages an enormous Chinese investment in infrastructure projects throughout Asia, Africa and even Europe, is expected to increase the demand for services provided by the Hong Kong legal sector."
Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Dr Jimmy Chiang said, "Hong Kong is a leading education hub in the region with many international law firms having a presence in the city. I believe that the new campus of The University of Law, upon opening next year, can leverage Hong Kong's unique position in the region in terms of education and legal service excellence and expand its brand around the world."
