The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) endeavours to provide affordable public rental housing (PRH) to low-income families with housing needs. The latest completed project is Kwai Tsui Estate in Kwai Chung. Tenant intake starts today (April 30).
"There are two domestic blocks at Kwai Tsui Estate, namely Bik Tsui House and Luk Tsui House, of 24 and 23 domestic storeys respectively. The building blocks have adopted a non-standard design and sit on a three-storey non-domestic podiums, providing a total of 866 PRH units for about 2 400 tenants," a spokesman for the HA said.
Flat types of the two building blocks include one/two-person flats, two/three person flats, one-bedroom flats and two-bedroom flats, with internal floor areas ranging from about 14 square metres to about 37 square metres. Acoustic windows are installed in some of the units to mitigate traffic noise.
Social welfare and recreational facilities are provided on the podium including a residential care home for the elderly-cum-day care unit, an integrated family service centre, a children's play area, an elderly fitness area and sitting-out areas, which provide comfortable public spaces and environments for residents.
Moreover, there is a car park providing 21 covered parking spaces for private cars, two parking spaces for light goods vehicles and five parking spaces for motorcycles. Two boarding and alighting bays for public transport services and a covered multi-purpose activity space-cum-badminton court are located at ground level.
There are shopping centres and restaurants in the vicinity of Kwai Tsui Estate, and it is only five minutes' walk to MTR Kwai Fong Station. Moreover, a convenience store is located at ground level, providing basic daily necessities for residents.
