Professor Ma said the MTRC has been working closely with the Police Force to ensure the public’s safety. He particularly expressed his gratitude to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau officers for swiftly and efficiently defusing two World War II bombs found at a construction site of the Shatin to Central Link in Wan Chai earlier, which had ensured the safety of the MTRC staff, nearby citizens and Hong Kong.
He also noted that the Railway District of the Force is responsible for maintaining public safety within MTR stations and along the railway. In addition to daily patrols at stations and in train compartments to combat railway crimes, in case of major incidents such as train accidents or serious delays, Railway District will immediately co-ordinate the affected land Districts and related departments to ensure that passengers are safely evacuated.
Professor Ma said under the threat of terrorist attacks globally, the Police and MTRC had prepared for the potential danger by strengthening anti-terrorism measures and stepping up patrols in MTR stations so as to enhance the safety of the railway system.
A total of 44 probationary inspectors and 283 recruit constables passed out today.
