He was briefed on the work of the EODB and inspected the two wartime bomb shells which had been taken to the EODB base.
“The gallantry of EODB officers, their professionalism, calmness, outstanding performance made us proud,” Mr Cheung said.
He said that while Hong Kong Police Force often faces danger in performing their duties, they are committed to serving the community and spare no effort to ensure the safety and stability of Hong Kong.
It is this high spirit that makes the Hong Kong Police Force one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the world, he added.
On January 27 and 31, the Police defused two 1 000-pound wartime bombs safely at a construction site in Wan Chai. No injury was reported.
Established in 1972, the EODB is responsible for dealing with all unexploded ordnances in Hong Kong. It also supports the Force and other government departments in anti-terrorism actions relating to explosives. All EODB officers are recruited within the Police Force and undergone rigorous training locally and overseas.
