Serious incident bulletin on Atlas Air, Inc. freighter released

     The investigation team of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) today (October 23) released Serious Incident Bulletin 4/2017 concerning the freighter B747-87UF (registration mark N856GT) operated by Atlas Air, Inc., which deviated from the standard instrument departure track after taking off at Hong Kong International Airport and evaded the high ground at Lo Fu Tau on Lantau Island by approximately 670 feet on September 24.

     A spokesperson for the CAD said that the bulletin contains information relating to the serious incident as determined up to the time of issue, and must be regarded as tentative.

     "The investigation team will continue with the investigation and will conduct more in-depth analysis of the relevant data and information collected in order to determine the circumstances and causes leading to the serious incident," the spokesperson said.
