With the advent of the summer vacation, the Film Programmes Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the International Children's and Youth Film Carnival 2017 (ICYFC), offering an enjoyable and exciting summer movie journey for families.

The ICYFC is a highlight of the International Arts Carnival and will present a selection of international animations, feature films and short films to be screened from July 7 to August 13 at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall, the Cinema of the Hong Kong Film Archive and the Lecture Halls of the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Space Museum.

Among the nine feature films, four are fun-filled animations. In "Rabbit School" (2017), Max, an urban rabbit, accidentally gets trapped in the Easter Rabbit School in a forest. He has to acquire the secret skills of the Easter Rabbits to save his friends. The film won the Audience Award for Best Animated Feature for Children at Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, in 2017. Therefore, the duo have no option but to win this challenging race. "Richard the Stork" (2016) tells the story of Richard, a sparrow who grows up among storks and keeps thinking he is one of them. He even decides to fly to Africa for the winter with his parents. The film won the Kids' Festival Favourite Award at the Luxembourg City Film Festival 2017. Felice in "Ballerina" (2016) dreams to be a ballerina and escapes an orphanage at night with her best friend to chase their dreams in Paris.

Two feature films depict the close bonds between animals and humans. "Mr Frog" (2016) features a beloved teacher who indeed is a frog. In "Owls & Mice" (2016), Meral befriends a mouse in her new home. The mouse is captured by an owl when Meral takes it along to her school camp, so the children then set out for an adventure to rescue it.

The remaining three feature films centre on their characters' unforgettable vacations. "Little Grey Fergie: Country Fun!" (2016) follows Gavin, who takes a summer holiday with his family in the countryside and befriends a living and amazing tractor. The film won Best Children's Film (Cinekid Lion Audience Award) at the Cinekid Festival 2016.
