Manager and operator fined for illegal club operation
*****************************************************
Two companies were fined $1,800 and $6,000 at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (April 26) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The court heard that in May and August last year, officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted inspections at two clubs on Kimberley Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and Nathan Road in Mong Kok, which had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC).

The staff of the club on Kimberley Road failed to show the registered drawings and a copy of the certificate of fire services installations and equipment upon the OLA officers' request. Conditions 10 and 17 of the CoC were breached.

At the club on Nathan Road, it was found to have a layout that deviated from the registered drawing and two fire resistant doors had been held open. Conditions 3 and 9 of the CoC were breached.

The two companies, being the manager of the club and the CoC holder of the club respectively, were charged with contravening section 21(1) (a) and section 21(2) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action will continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
