Military bands to perform in "International Military Tattoo" in July (with photos)

     Military bands from the Mainland and overseas will perform in the "International Military Tattoo" in July at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The programme will provide a splendid showcase of pride and glory that lovers of military band music should not miss.

     The press conference of the "International Military Tattoo" was held today (April 12) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Guests present at the press conference included the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, and artistic advisors including the Director of the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Senior Colonel Zou Rui; the Artistic Director of the Military Band of the PLA, Senior Colonel Cheng Daming; and the Director of Music of the Hong Kong Police Band, Mr James Leung. Other guests at the press conference included the representative of the sponsor, the General Manager of the Chief Executive's Office of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Fang Yu; the Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Performing Arts), Ms Elaine Yeung; and representatives of military bands and performing troupes.

     Military bands performing at the shows will include the Military Band of the PLA, the Military Band of the PLA Navy, the Guard of Honour of the PLA, the Guard of Honour of the Hong Kong Garrison of the PLA, the Central Military Band of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, the Band of the Royal Netherlands Army Mounted Regiments, the Russian Frontier Guard Band, the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland with the Pipes and Drums of the 7th Battalion and the US 7th Fleet Band. The Hong Kong Police Band and the Hong Kong Association of Choral Societies will also participate in the performances.

     The "International Military Tattoo" is presented by the Home Affairs Bureau, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong). It is one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The performances will be staged at 8pm from July 13 to 15 (Thursday to Saturday). Tickets priced at $150, $250 and $350 will be available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk) from April 19 onwards.      Meet-the-bands activities will be held before each performance from 7pm to 7.45pm at the Piazza of the Hong Kong Coliseum with free admission. Members of the public are welcome to attend and take photos with the band members.

     A two-day outdoor carnival will be held from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on July 15 and 16 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Piazza of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre with game stalls, performances (4pm to 5pm) by selected visiting military bands and representatives from local disciplined services and more. Admission is free.
