Sham Shui Po District-led Actions Scheme - Lunar New Year Clean-up held today
*****************************************************************************
Officiating guests included the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; the Chairman of the Sham Shui Po District Council (SSPDC), Mr Ambrose Cheung; the Vice-chairman of the SSPDC, Mr Chan Wai-ming; the Chairman of the Environment and Hygiene Committee of the SSPDC, Ms Lau Pui-yuk; District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Damian Lee; and the District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Sham Shui Po) of the FEHD, Mr Lai Kah-kit.
The Government implemented the District-led Actions Scheme (DAS) in all 18 districts in Hong Kong last year, devoting resources to support districts in solving persistent and thorny problems. So far a total of 39 projects have been launched throughout the territory.
With the support of the SSPDC, the Sham Shui Po District Management Committee has included the initiative of strengthening the support to "three-nil" buildings as the priority task of the DAS. Under the Scheme, contractors will clean up the common parts of "three-nil" buildings and the nearby rear lanes to improve the hygiene of public places. Since the launch of the project in June last year, 61 buildings and 57 rear lanes have been cleaned up and 82 tonnes of rubbish collected. Apart from providing a cleaning service, the Sham Shui Po District Office also sent staff to visit residents, encouraging them to take an active role in building management. So far, three buildings have formed owners' corporations with assistance provided under the DAS.
After the ceremony, the officiating guests distributed cleansing packs to members of the public so as to promote the message of keeping the environment clean.
