Concession for goods vehicles staying in PCWAs proposed
*******************************************************
The Government today (December 2) published in the Gazette a proposal to introduce a concessionary rate for goods vehicles staying in Public Cargo Working Areas (PCWAs) for not more than 30 minutes.

At present, each goods vehicle staying in a PCWA to load and unload cargo or containers is required to have a Vehicle Entry Ticket (VET) and pay an hourly rate of $33 under the Port Control (Cargo Working Areas) Regulation.

A spokesperson for the Transport and Housing Bureau said, "The Government proposes revising the Regulation to introduce a concessionary rate of VET fee at $25 for a goods vehicle leaving the PCWA within half an hour after entry. The measure will help reduce the operating costs of the trade."

The Panel on Economic Development of the Legislative Council (LegCo) and the trade are supportive of the proposal.

The proposed legislative amendment will be tabled at LegCo on December 7 for negative vetting for commencement on January 30, 2017.
