SCED shares Hong Kong's experience in developing human capital at APEC Ministerial Meeting (with photos)

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, continued to attend the 28th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Lima, Peru, today (November 18, Lima time). He shared details of Hong Kong's experience of developing human capital with the participants.
 
     Speaking at the plenary session on "Developing Human Capital", Mr So said the Government had put in place various measures, through public and private organisations, to support entrepreneurs. These organisations provide the full range of services essential to entrepreneurs, from incubation and acceleration programmes to angel and venture capital, microfinance and funding schemes, and mentorship and business advisory services. In addition, Invest Hong Kong has run a one-stop portal, the startmeup.hk, for local and overseas start-ups to share their success stories and useful resources, he added.
 
     To encourage more technological start-ups, the Government has been providing financial support for research and development activities in universities and technology institutions, Mr So said, adding that the Government also facilitates the commercialisation of their technological achievements.
 
     On the margins of the AMM, Mr So held bilateral meetings with the trade ministers of various member economies to foster mutual trade and economic relations.
 
     In the evening, Mr So met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Mr Heraldo Muñoz Valenzuela, and signed an investment agreement with Chile.
 
     After the signing ceremony, Mr So will depart for New York, the United States to transit via the city to Hong Kong on November 19 (New York time). While in New York, he will take the opportunity to have breakfast with artists and musicians of Hong Kong origin to learn about their work in New York.
 
     Mr So will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (November 20).
