******************************************************************************************
The Water Supplies Department (WSD) today (November 5) held the Plumbing Industry Professional Development Exchange Session and the Launching Ceremony for the Voluntary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme for Licensed Plumbers in collaboration with the Vocational Training Council, the Construction Industry Council and plumbing trade associations. The aims of the exchange session and the CPD scheme are to encourage plumbers to continue self-improvement, to introduce how to enhance the professional image of plumbers and to attract youngsters to join the industry.

Officiating at the ceremony, the Deputy Director of Water Supplies, Mr Wong Chung-leung, said that the WSD had launched the Voluntary CPD Scheme for Licensed Plumbers through the Advisory Board on Licensing of Plumbers last month to promote continuous learning among Licensed Plumbers (LPs). Under the Scheme, LPs who have attained certain CPD credits within a calendar year will be awarded a gold, silver or bronze certificate. In recognition of their achievements and for public reference, information about the credits and certificates they have attained will be uploaded to the WSD website.

Another officiating guest, the Chairman of the Advisory Board on Licensing of Plumbers, Mr Edmund Leung, said that the plumbing industry offers promising prospects with the anticipated increase in housing construction volume. Furthermore, he added that with changes in design and installation technology for the plumbing system in buildings, plumbing practitioners should keep up with the times and continue to upgrade their knowledge and skills to stay competitive.

Under the theme "A Brighter Future of Plumbing Industry", the Plumbing Industry Professional Development Exchange Session invited representatives of training institutes to introduce the Voluntary CPD Scheme for Licensed Plumbers, courses for LPs and plumbing technicians as well as the professional development ladder of the plumbing industry. It was well received by about 200 plumbing practitioners and secondary school students.
