27th Tsuen Wan Sports Festival Opening Ceremony cum Adventist Hospital 10K Run for Healthy Heart 2016 (with photos)

     The 27th Tsuen Wan Sports Festival Opening Ceremony cum Adventist Hospital 10K Run for Healthy Heart 2016 was held at the Waterfront Promenade, Tsuen Wan Park today (October 23), attracting over 1 000 participants.

     The 10-kilometre run, using a route back and forth between the Tsuen Wan Park Phase II and the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre, was divided into men’s and women’s individual races. The runners shared the sporting fun while enjoying the picturesque scenery of the waterfront.

     The 27th Tsuen Wan Sports Festival is being held from October 15, 2016 to January 15, 2017 and includes eight sports events, namely the Opening Ceremony cum Adventist Hospital 10K Run for Healthy Heart 2016, Tsuen Wan Rural Committee Elite Soccer Competition, Tsuen Wan Area Inter-Primary School Table-Tennis Competition, Tsuen Wan Area Primary School Nine-a-side Soccer Competition, Tsuen Wan Area Inter-school Badminton Competition, Tsuen Wan Open DanceSport Championships, Rugby Competition Cum Fun-day and the Closing Ceremony cum Lion Dance Competition. Details of the events are set out at Annex.

     As the major sports event in the district, the Tsuen Wan Sports Festival aims to provide residents with a wide variety of sports activities and enhance their interest in participating in sports and their sense of belonging to the district.

     The Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; the Chairman of Tsuen Wan District Council (TWDC), Mr Chung Wai-ping; District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Miss Jenny Yip; Police District Commander (Tsuen Wan), Mr Anthony Kwok, and the Chairman of Tsuen Wan District Junior Police Call Honorary President Council, Mr Chau How-chen, officiated at the event today.

     Co-hosted by the 27th Tsuen Wan Sports Festival Co-ordinating Committee, the Yuen Yuen Institute, the Federation of Tsuen Wan District Sports & Recreation Association Limited and the Tsuen Wan District Office (TWDO), the 27th Tsuen Wan Sports Festival is supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Tsuen Wan District Police and sponsored by the TWDC.
