Man jailed for illegal pig slaughtering activities

   A man was sentenced to three weeks﷿ imprisonment by the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (May 12) for illegal pig slaughtering activities.

     A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said: "The man was found guilty of operating a slaughterhouse without a licence, illegal slaughtering of food animals for human consumption and possessing prohibited food. He was given a three-week jail term for each of the offences, to be served concurrently."

     FEHD officers raided the illegal pig slaughterhouse at Pak Sha, Yuen Long during a blitz operation on April 19 and seized about 560 kilogrammes of unstamped pig carcasses and raw pork. The man was arrested on the spot.

     The spokesman stressed that the Department would continue to take stringent enforcement actions against all illegal slaughtering activities to protect public health and maintain environmental hygiene.

     The maximum penalty for each of the above offences is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.
