MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 8 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 25) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $130,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendants, Etech Control Company Limited and Baishida (HK) Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $36,127.06 and 11,747.7 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, including Lau Yiu Lam and Lee Chow Lan trading as Eversafe Engineering Company, Fine Projects Limited, Empire Technologies (Asia) Limited and Freeway Racing Parts Centre, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $49,229.9, $32,320.54, $6,300 and $506.55, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $340, $190, $180, $110, $430 and $170 as the costs in respect of the claims.
