The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, visited the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today (June 30) to learn more about the work of the department and to take the opportunity to meet its staff.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Cheung first met with the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Allen Yeung, and the directorate staff. In addition to providing information technology (IT) and cybersecurity services and support within the Government, the OGCIO is also responsible for implementing IT policies, strategies, programmes and measures under the Digital 21 Strategy to sustain Hong Kong's position as Asia's leading digital city.

While visiting the Digital Inclusion Division, Mr Cheung was briefed by staff on their work in various areas such as the Internet Learning Support Programme, web accessibility and the adoption of IT to support elderly and underprivileged groups.

Later, Mr Cheung visited the Industry Facilitation Division to learn more about their work in assisting the formulation of strategies and initiatives for developing Hong Kong into a smart city and a data centre hub, promoting the development of the IT industry, as well as overseeing collaboration programmes with the Mainland and places overseas.

Mr Cheung also paid a visit to the Governance and Resources Division, which is mainly responsible for assisting bureaux and departments in shaping and delivering IT-enabled business systems that support their policy goals, as well as monitoring government IT projects.

Mr Cheung then toured the Central Computer Centre that operates round-the-clock throughout the year to provide data centre services to various bureaux and departments, hosting services for the Government's central IT infrastructure and systems as well as disaster recovery facilities for departmental mission critical systems.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung met staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on relevant departmental issues. He praised colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue to deliver effective, secure and people-oriented e-Government services to meet rising public expectations.
