The Acting Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (June 24) expressed great sadness over the loss of Senior Fireman, Mr Hui Chi-kit, in the No.4 alarm fire at 7 Ngau Tau Kok Road. Mr Cheung extended his deepest sympathies to the officer's family and wished the other officers injured while fighting the blaze a speedy recovery.
"It was with profound sadness for us to learn that we lost another brave, dedicated, outstanding and professional fireman. The Civil Service Bureau and the Fire Services Department (FSD) will do their best to help the family members of the late Mr Hui to go through this difficult time." Mr Cheung said.
"As Chairman of the Committee on Financial Assistance for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to Save Others in my capacity as the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, I have proactively liaised with FSD in order to expedite the processing of the cases of the late Mr Hui and the late Senior Station Officer, Mr Thomas Cheung under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Family Members of Those Who Sacrifice Their Lives to Save Others to provide more financial assistance and recognise their selfless devotion and gallantry.
"I would also like to express my heartfelt appreciation to FSD colleagues for their bravery, devotion and professionalism in fighting the fire which has been raging into its fourth day," Mr Cheung said.
