SCED speaks on Director of Audit's report on Hongkong Post
**********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, on the Director of Audit's report on the operation of Hongkong Post after officiating at the 8th Mainland-Hong Kong Services Industry Symposium today (November 19):

Reporter: How does the Government plan to follow up on the criticisms by the Director of Audit about Hongkong Post?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: Hongkong Post welcomes many of the recommendations by the Director of Audit. In fact, many of the recommendations are already being followed up on. And you have to understand that postal service is very much demand-driven, and so at times when the demand level has increased, that needs overtime work. So we need to keep our labour force at optimum amount to deal with these services. At times of peak demand invariably there will be overtime that will be required of the staff of Hongkong Post. But we take full note of the recommendations of the Director of Audit's report, and I'm sure Hongkong Post will implement the measures to make sure that public resources are used appropriately.
