The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance today (November 18) alerted the public to eight fraudulent websites that purport to be official websites (or an insurance portal) of 16 authorised insurers in Hong Kong. The insurers concerned have confirmed that they have no connections with the fraudulent websites. The fraudulent websites and the authorised insurers being purported are listed in the Annex.
The cases have been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to these websites or has conducted any insurance transactions through these websites should contact the respective insurers (via the telephone numbers in the Annex), the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012 or any local police station.
Any company conducting insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41).
