The Tai Po District Office (TPDO) today (August 14) held the Tai Po District Clean Hong Kong Campaign Kick-off Ceremony at the cooked food centre in Tai Po Hui Market. The event aimed to encourage public participation in the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign to make Tai Po a clean and healthy community.
Officiating guests at the ceremony included the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan; the District Officer (Tai Po), Mr Bassanio So; the Acting District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Tai Po) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), Mr Andrew Chan; the Vice Chairman of the Tai Po District Council (TPDC), Ms Wong Pik-kiu; and the Chairman of the Environment, Housing and Works Committee under the TPDC, Mr Chan Siu-kuen.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Chan said the campaign aimed to enhance the awareness of the public of their responsibility to keep the community clean and tidy. He appealed to members of the public to develop a habit of observing personal and environmental hygiene in the effort to keep Hong Kong clean.
During the ceremony, a short video produced by the Tai Po Youth Network promoting the message of a clean Hong Kong was broadcast to remind the public to keep the environment clean.
After the ceremony, the officiating guests and TPDC members took part in cleaning work at the cooked food centre and distributed cleaning packs to the public to enhance their awareness of the importance of household cleanliness and personal hygiene.
To further promote the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, the TPDO will launch the Tai Po Student Cleaning Ambassador Scheme in the new school year to encourage secondary students' participation in community cleaning. The TPDO has also planned to arrange for contractors to clean the common areas of about 180 "three-nil" buildings in the district in a bid to improve environmental hygiene. Cleaning packs will also be distributed to owners' corporations and mutual aid committees to promote the important message of keeping buildings clean.
The event was organised by the TPDO, co-organised by the FEHD and supported by the TPDC.
