The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered two food premises in Quarry Bay to suspend business for 14 days, as the operators had repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by illegally extending the food business area.
A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said, "The two food premises are 'Dai Yip Noodles', a light refreshment restaurant located at shop No. 23 on the ground floor of Yick Fat Building at 1048 King's Road, and 'Ba Tat Restaurant', a general restaurant located on the ground floor at 4 Yau Man Street. The restaurants were ordered to suspend business from today (November 26) to December 9."
Two convictions for illegally extending the food business area were recorded against both "Dai Yip Noodles" and "Ba Tat Restaurant" in May and September this year. Total fines of $6,000 and $16,000 were levied by the court respectively and 30 demerit points were registered against each licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension for both restaurants.
The licensees of "Dai Yip Noodles" and "Ba Tat Restaurant" each had a record of two convictions for the same offence between November last year and April this year. Total fines of $5,100 and $7,800 were levied respectively and 30 demerit points each were registered. The breaches led to business suspension of both restaurants for seven days in June.
The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
