SCS visits Sha Tin District (with photos)

  The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, today (March 5) visited Sha Tin District to learn about the latest developments in the district and to meet with Sha Tin District Council members.

  Accompanied by the Chairman of Sha Tin District Council, Mr Ho Hau-cheung, and the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Cora Ho, Mr Tang arrived at Sha Tin District Council and met with Council members to listen to their views about various developments in  the district and other related issues.

  Later, Mr Tang visited the construction site at Shui Chuen O Estate, where he was briefed by Housing Department staff on the development and progress of public housing projects in Sha Tin. Mr Tang also noted the Housing Authority¨s plan to build 18 public rental housing blocks at the site, which would provide about 11 000 flats for about 30 000 residents. This construction project is anticipated to be completed in phases from the end of 2014 to 2015.

  Mr Tang next proceeded to Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW), the largest secondary sewage treatment works in Hong Kong, which is currently serving more than 630 000 residents in Sha Tin District. During his tour of STSTW, Mr Tang learned that the Drainage Services Department is preparing to proceed with investigation and designs for the relocation of STSTW to caverns, with a view to commencing construction works in 2017.  

  Before concluding his visit, Mr Tang said he greatly appreciated colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue providing quality, efficient and professional services to the public.
