FEHD orders Tai Kok Tsui restaurant to suspend business for two weeks
************************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Tai Kok Tsui to suspend business for 14 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by allowing staff to wash food utensils in an alley.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor of Chung Wo Building at No. 7 and 9 Chung Wui Street, was ordered to suspend business from today (February 7) to February 20.

"Between last May and July, four convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $5,400 was levied by the court and 45 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in seven-day and 14-day business suspensions running consecutively," he added.

The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 14 days instead.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is available on FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
