The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, yesterday (January 22, London time) concluded his three-day official visit to London, the United Kingdom (UK).
Mr Ng met with the UK Secretary of State for Education, Mr Michael Gove, to exchange views on education policy and provide him with an update on Hong Kong's latest developments and priorities in education, including the new education and youth initiatives in the 2014 Policy Address.
The two places have always forged a close partnership in education, and there are currently 263 research collaborations between institutions in the UK and Hong Kong's eight University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded institutions.
In the 2012/13 academic year more than 30 UK students studied in the UGC-funded institutions, while more than 350 UK students were engaged in exchange activities.
Mr Ng also attended the Ministers Plenary Session of the Education World Forum 2014 and addressed a luncheon hosted by the UK's Hong Kong Association to introduce new initiatives in the 2014 Policy Address to the business sector.
Officials accompanying the SED in London included the Deputy Secretary for Education, Dr Catherine K K Chan, and the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Kenneth Cheng. They will be back in Hong Kong this afternoon.
