SHA congratulates HK athletes at 2013 East Asian Games in Tianjin

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, extended congratulations to Hong Kong's athletes for winning 10 gold, 16 silver and 30 bronze medals at the 2013 East Asian Games in Tianjin today (October 15).

     Mr Tsang applauded the outstanding performance of the athletes. "Hong Kong's athletes have achieved remarkable results. They have demonstrated their unswerving efforts and sportsmanship, seizing 56 medals. We are very proud of their outstanding achievements. In particular, the Hong Kong men's foil team and women's cyclist Lee Wai-sze, on their first participation in the East Asian Games, won the gold medals in the Men's Foil Team event and Women's Cycling 200m Sprint respectively. I encourage our Hong Kong athletes to continue working hard and striving for excellence," Mr Tsang said.

     He expressed his gratitude to the coaches, working staff and families of the athletes for their support. He encouraged the Hong Kong delegation to keep up their strength and wished them every success in the upcoming events.

     The Hong Kong delegation, comprising 303 athletes, competed in 23 sports, namely Aquatics (Swimming/Diving), Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, DanceSport, Dragon Boat, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Karatedo, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wushu.
