The following is issued on behalf of the Education Commission:
The Chairman of the Education Commission, Dr Moses Cheng, today (July 16) issued the following message to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination graduates:
"Over 70,000 Secondary 6 students - the second cohort of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) - have finally received their long-awaited examination results. I would like to congratulate them on their efforts and perseverance, and hope that they will look upon their HKDSE results and embark on their next stage in life with optimism and confidence.
"Hong Kong's New Academic Structure (NAS) - implemented since September 2009 - is a key education reform that aims at better preparing our students for the demands of a dynamic, knowledge-based globalised world. The strength of the NAS to meet these challenges lies in a diversified and sustainable system of learning, which provides for more choices and opportunities, lays emphasis on quality and equips students for lifelong learning. The adoption of a student-centred learning approach in particular provides learning opportunities for all students in Hong Kong to develop their potential and succeed. The articulation of the NAS with local and international education systems enables our HKDSE graduates to attain success through multiple pathways both to higher education and career development.
"I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to schools, principals, teachers and parents for their dedication, relentless efforts and support in realising our goals for the NAS. I would also like to wish our young graduates every success in their future and as leaders of tomorrow."
