This summer, members of the public will be able to discover their neighbourhood from a new angle through a series of activities under the theme "City Impression@Your Neighbourhood". Organised by the Planning Department and the City Gallery, the "City Impression@Your Neighbourhood" campaign, which highlights activities including a photographic competition, workshops and a thematic exhibition, is one of the events under the "Caring Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.
"After the prologue 'City Impression' series of exhibitions and workshops at the beginning of this year, the City Gallery received overwhelming support from the public. The series aims to focus on the charms and spirit of our territory. We therefore hope to continue to arouse public awareness of our neighbourhood and promote caring for less privileged groups through an array of activities under 'City Impression@Your Neighbourhood'," the spokesperson for the City Gallery said.
A series of workshops will be organised in July and August for children and youths with the aim to enhance their understanding about the community. Participants will be able to create an ideal and innovative neighbourhood through visual arts and experiential activities. The workshops, with thematic activities include drawing, visual arts and model making, are divided into two groups - the Children Series for those aged 6 to 12, and the Youth Series for those aged 13 to 24.
To encourage members of the public to portray the most appealing scene of their neighbourhood through the camera lens, the "City Impression@Your Neighbourhood" photographic competition is launched, with entries to be accepted from today (July 8) to September 19.
The competition comprises two sections - the Secondary School section and the Open section - with the respective themes "A Week in Neighbourhood" and "City Impression@Your Neighbourhood". A champion, two runners-up and 10 outstanding awards will be selected for each section. Each winner will be awarded a cash coupon and a trophy/certificate. Award-winning entries will be exhibited at the thematic exhibition in the City Gallery at end of this year. In addition, to promote the message of community giving, competition participants are encouraged to donate their prizes to their neighbourhood or other charity organisations in their district.
A thematic exhibition to be held at the end of this year will extend the caring spirit of "Your Neighbourhood" through exhibits with different formats.

Located at 3 Edinburgh Place, Central, the City Gallery is the first permanent planning and infrastructure gallery in Hong Kong and was officially opened on August 20, 2012. Occupying five storeys with a floor area of more than 3 200 square metres, the gallery offers a host of interactive exhibits to showcase the uniqueness of Hong Kong in the past and the future, as well as to share with the public the vision for city planning and infrastructure projects.
