The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Following resolution from respective Hospital Governing Committees of public hospitals and direction from the Government, the revised hospital fees and charges to be levied by the Hospital Authority (HA) from April 1, 2013, on non-eligible persons (NEPs) and private patients has been gazetted today (March 22) for public notice.
The HA spokesman said public services for eligible persons have been excluded from the current fee revisions.
Currently, NEPs are treated in public hospitals only under "life- or limb-threatening" situations and will be charged fees which have been set with a cost recovery principle and on an all-inclusive basis.
For private services in public hospitals, which are provided as a means for the public to access specialised expertise and facilities not generally available in the private sector, charges are set on the cost or market price, whichever is higher, for the respective services.
"Beginning on April 1, a new listing approach for private service items will also be adopted to present the ever increasing number of items by broad range of charges in the Gazette, while the respective charging details are available at the hospitals upon patient enquiry," the spokesman added.
