Man Kam To Food Control Office expanded for operational enhancement (with photos)
********************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (March 22) the completion of the Man Kam To Food Control Office (MKTFCO) extension project and the opening of the expanded office tomorrow (March 23) to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency of inspection of Mainland foods imported through the Man Kam To land border.

Under the present food export/import inspection arrangement with the Mainland, vehicles carrying fresh foods, including aquatic product, egg, fruit, game, meat, milk, poultry and vegetable from the Mainland are essentially to enter Hong Kong through the Man Kam To Boundary Control Point.

An FEHD spokesman said, "An additional 23 parking spaces are provided on the expanded venue to accommodate for increases in demands for inspection."

Border inspection by the FEHD's Centre for Food Safety can include verification of documents, checking on the cold chain and sampling of foods for safety surveillance, amongst others.

The existing MKTFCO came into operation in 1996.

"With the increases in both the number and the size of food conveying vehicles from the Mainland to Hong Kong, the FEHD launched the project in 2010 in order to expand the MKTFCO to meet operational demands," the spokesman said.
