USED meets awardees of the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers (with photos)

     The Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (February 22) attended a tea reception for the students who have been awarded the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers (2012/13). Mr Yeung congratulated the students for having been awarded the Scholarship and commended them for their performance. He also encouraged them to persevere in their future role as teachers and to make concerted efforts to enhance their students' English proficiency.

     The Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers was set up in the 2010/11 school year as one of the measures to enhance the professionalism of English language teachers in Hong Kong. It aims to attract persons proficient in English to pursue relevant bachelor degree programmes and/or teacher training programmes in higher education institutions in Hong Kong. Awardees have to undertake to teach English as a full-time teacher in a primary/secondary day school in Hong Kong upon graduation.

     The tea reception was held at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre and attended by the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mrs Betty Ip, and the Principal Assistant Secretary (Professional Development and Training), Mr Steve Lee.

     A number of experienced school heads and awarded teachers of the Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence were also invited to exchange views with the awardees at the reception.
