The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited Sai Kung this afternoon (November 5) to attend a ceremony to signal the commencement of construction of the cycling track at Tseung Kwan O Velodrome. She also met with Sai Kung District Councillors.
First on Mrs Lam's visit programme was the ceremony at Tseung Kwan O Velodrome, where she was joined in officiating by the Chairman of the Sai Kung District Council, Mr George Ng; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung; the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Leung Koon-kee; the Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Jonathan McKinley; and the District Officer (Sai Kung), Ms Maureen Siu.
Mrs Lam had an exchange with the Deputy Secretary of the Hong Kong Cycling Association, Mr Hung Chung-yam, on the development of cycling in Hong Kong. She also met with the head coach of the Hong Kong Cycling Team, Mr Shen Jinkang, and the cyclists Lee Wai-sze and Cheung King-wai, encouraging them to win further honours for Hong Kong.
The Tseung Kwan O Velodrome is expected to be completed in the latter half of 2013 and will provide an indoor cycling track 250 metres long and a 3,000-seat spectator stand.
Following the ceremony Mrs Lam had a meeting with Sai Kung District Councillors, at which she listened to their various needs and concerns on district administration and territory-wide issues of Hong Kong, including enhancing district administration and project co-ordination, utilising residential land use in the district, providing additional transport and recreational facilities and promoting local tourism.
