The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, met the Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Mr Wang Yang, at Government House today (June 14) to discuss the latest developments of Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation and hosted a dinner to welcome the Guangdong delegation.
On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Tsang thanked Mr Wang for his support in promoting Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation and developing the regional economy since he assumed office in late 2007.
During their meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation and found it very encouraging that the co-operation had elevated to the national strategic level.
Over the past few years, Hong Kong and Guangdong have been able to exchange views on issues of mutual concern in a timely and efficient manner through the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference and regular meetings between leaders of the two places. Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation has made significant achievements in a number of important areas, including more than 40 measures for early and pilot implementation in Guangdong under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, development of financial services, restructuring and upgrading of Hong Kong enterprises in Guangdong Province, and co-operation in innovation and technology. Recent years have also seen the launch of major cross-boundary infrastructure projects, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.
"Mr Wang is the driving force behind the Framework for Development and Reform Planning for Pearl River Delta Region, the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation and the inclusion of Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation in the National 12th Five-Year Plan. He also promotes innovative co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong, such as the development of Qianhai and Nansha.
"Under Mr Wang's leadership and with his strong support, Hong Kong and Guangdong achieved all-round co-operation and yielded substantial results in various social and economic aspects," Mr Tsang said.
Building on the past success, the two leaders looked forward to the further strengthening of co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong.
