The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
The Judiciary today (May 11) announced the appointment of Mr So Kai-cheung, Miss Ho Lai-ming, Miss Lau Suk-han, Mr Li Chi-ho and Ms Leung Ka-kie as Special Magistrates. The appointments will take effect from May 14, 2012.
The appointments have been made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
The biographical notes of the appointees are as follows:
Mr So Kai-cheung
Mr So was born in Hong Kong in 1963. He obtained an LL.B. from the University of Wolverhampton in 1999 and completed the Bar Vocational Course from the University of Northumbria in the United Kingdom in 2002. He further obtained an LL.M. (Intellectual Property) from the Remin University of China in 2009. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2002. He has been in private practice since 2003.
Miss Ho Lai-ming
Miss Ho was born in Hong Kong. She obtained an LL.B. from the University of London in 2001 and a P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 2002. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2002. She joined the Judiciary as Court Interpreter from 1995 to 2001. She has been in private practice since 2003.
Miss Lau Suk-han
Miss Lau was born in Hong Kong in 1972. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995, an LL.B. from the University of London in 2003 and a P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 2004. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2005 and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2010. She joined the Department of Justice as Court Prosecutor from 1997 to 2008. She has been in private practice since 2010.
Mr Li Chi-ho
Mr Li was born in Hong Kong in 1974. He obtained an LL.B. from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom in 1996 and a P.C.LL. from the City University of Hong Kong in 1998. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1998. He has been in private practice since 2000.
Ms Leung Ka-kie
Ms Leung was born in Hong Kong. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1999 and 2002 respectively. She further obtained an LL.B. from the University of London in 2006 and a P.C.LL. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2011. She joined the Department of Justice as Court Prosecutor in 2002 and was appointed as Acting Government Counsel in 2012.
