Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, at a media session on textbook issues after attending the foundation stone laying ceremony of a school this morning (May 10):
Reporter: Would you update us on the situation with the textbook publishers right now ...? Are they going to reduce textbook prices ...?
Secretary for Education: The latest situation is that they have confirmed with us that they will be supplying us with necessary information which will enable us to release the Recommended Textbook (List) tomorrow as planned. So there is no fear that there will be no booklist for schools to choose from for next year. The second point is that we got confirmation from the publishers that the prices they originally supplied to us will remain unchanged. That is to say that they will not be increasing the prices for textbooks any further.
