Seven men charged with false registration of electors

     Police today (January 11) laid charges against seven men with offences related to false registration of electors.

    Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North Region arrested the seven males, aged between 45 and 67, between December 19, 2011 and today. Six of them, who did not cast their votes in the 2011 District Council Election, were suspected to have provided false information in the registration of electors in Ping Shan South Constituency of Yuen Long District in the 2011 District Council Election. The remaining one was suspected to have incited those six men to provide false information in the registration of electors.  

     After investigation, six arrested persons were charged today respectively with one count of ¡°Making a false statement in the application for registration in a provisional register¡±, contrary to section 22(1) of Cap 541 A, the Electoral Affairs Commission (Registration of Electors) (Legislative Council Geographical Constituencies) (District Council Constituencies) Regulation. The man who incited the false registration was charged with six counts of the same offence.

     All of them will appear in Tuen Mun Magistrates¡¯ Courts for trial tomorrow.
